Carpineto’s Montalcino estate is one of the highest in the appellation at an altitude of 500 meters (1,350 ft) above sea level.
The 53ha farm has historic stone buildings built over two centuries ago surrounded by 10 ha (25 acres) of vineyards planted to Sangiovese Grosso on a dry farmed hillside in perfect view just west of the township of Montalcino (Siena) as well as an ancient olive grove.
The planting density is 2,20x 0,90 meters (7×3 feet) equivalent to over 5,000 vines per hectare trained to unilateral cordon.
The sedimentary soil has a galestro frame with clay accumulations dating to the Eocene era (15 million years ago).
The slightly northern exposure of the vineyards, surrounded by thick woods which protect the vineyard from the warm and humid westerly winds that come up from the Maremma, confers the wine flavours of wild berries and mediterranean herbs. The unique microclimate gives wines with intense bouquets, vibrant acidities, fine elegance and great longevity.
Making the great wines of Tuscany since 1967.
