How to pair Chianti Classico Gran Selezione: recommended foods and those to avoid

Chianti is arguably the most important establishment of the Tuscan viticultural tradition. At Carpineto, we want to make sure that its legend continues to grow, producing high quality products and informing our readers about its history. This is our passion and our mission, and today we are here to discuss one of our finest bottles: The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

Produced from estate-grown Sangiovese grapes coming from Dudda, Greve in Chianti, this vine is nestled in one of the coolest areas of the appellation, particularly suited for the production of wines of great structure, concentration and longevity. Vinification takes place in small stainless temperature-controlled tanks, using indigenous yeast; in order to preserve the typical Sangiovese bouquet from Dudda, temperature is constantly maintained at 25-30°C.

After 18 months of maturation, this excellent quality red presents a deep ruby red color, with pronounced aromas of wild berries, interlaced with hints of vanilla and spicy notes on the finish. Its characteristics, confirmed by the palate sensations, are enhanced by its longevity. Taking a sip will reveal even greater strength, texture and persistence. Its elegance is already evident, destined to turn into absolute excellence with cellaring.

But what about pairing a good Chianti Classico Gran Selezione bottle? Chianti is a surprisingly versatile wine: it lends itself to combinations with various dishes of the entire Italian cuisine, and also, of course, Tuscany’s traditional meat dishes. This red goes very well with red meat dishes, such as roasts, steaks and braised meats. Even game dishes, such as wild boar and rabbit.

You can enjoy Chianti even with a nice cheese platter, especially aged ones such as Pecorino and Parmigiano. These are the typical combinations that exalt its characteristics, and here in Tuscany it is often served with Florentine steak or “Cinta Senese Finocchiona”. The taste will be absolutely exalted by these amazing traditional dishes, gifting your palate with the full local experience.

Choosing the right pairings is as important as avoiding the wrong ones! Therefore, you should try not to combine this red with light and delicate flavors. Baked vegetables and fish are usually a deal breaker that will corrupt your tasting experience. The same goes for preparations that are too hot or spicy, which could potentially completely cover the wonderful Chianti taste. Never pair it with very sweet or acidic fruit-based desserts, as the combination won’t work at all for your taste buds.

Chianti is an amazing product of our precious region, the name of an area of Tuscany bounded to the north by the Florence territory, to the west by the Pesa and Elsa valleys, overlooked by the Chianti mountains to the east and facing the city of Siena to the south. Its hilly territory is definitely one of the most suggestive to visit in Tuscany and we absolutely want to preserve its legacy. We do that by producing high quality bottles that will enrich your meals: we believe that every wine lover should absolutely try it at least once in his lifetime and we are sure that with the right pairing you will love it even more.
