World Friendship Day: three wines to toast with friends

Everything is better if shared, especially wine. Sometimes, the most important thing about a meal or a drink is the company: that’s the secret ingredient that can truly enhance each and every product.

International Friendship Day is celebrated every year on July 30: the idea was launched by the United Nations, which established this anniversary to encourage a culture of peace among peoples. International Friendship Day was born from the idea that promoting a shared spirit of solidarity among individuals and countries can inspire efforts for peace and build bridges between communities, preventing conflicts and sharing solidarity among communities.

Here at Carpineto we strongly believe in our values, and friendship is certainly one of the most important ones, whether it is in our private life or in a work group: that's why our products have that extra something that makes them even more special. Let’s take a look at 3 special bottles for a perfect toast with friends:

DogajolORO Toscana Rosso IGT: DogajolORO comes from the historic hillsides of Central Tuscany where high-density, dry-farmed, older vines bring grapes of remarkable quality and depth.

Made with attention and in a traditional way, this Sangiovese-based Super Tuscan embodies elegance, structure, and aging potential. Made of at least 85% Sangiovese plus Cabernet Sauvignon and other allowed varieties, the wine reflects its terroir’s character with finesse.

Grape varieties are mixed because they ripen at different periods. The fermentation process is carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks equipped with selected yeasts, which ensure purity and balance. DogajolORO shows a ruby red color with garnet reflections in the glass. It is an intense and complex bouquet, with cherry, violet, vanilla, and subtle spice aromas.

A full-bodied wine in the mouth, smooth and complex with a well-rounded structure and a long finish that is persistent.

Farnito Chardonnay IGT 2022: Grown on the high altitude estate of Chianciano/Montepulciano with Chardonnay grapes, at 300 meters (1000 feet) above sea levels, this wine shows the terroir and the artisanal process the winemaker has exercised.

Throughout the entire process, the grapes are hand-selected and harvested from late August to early September into small crates that vaulted onto flatbed trucks to minimize bruising (and keep the grapes at their freshest), therefore preserving the entire process before vinification.

The wine goes through a cold maceration process on the skins before the grape juice is moved with a slow fermentation process by selected yeast, in which the wine will expand and evolve to depth and an aromatically significant wine.

The fixed particles or solids from the fermentation and lees are incorporated back into the wine, and augmented with regular stirring so that the wine develops character and texture. When winter arrives, the wine is racked from the fermentation tank to barrel to begin a short maturation process before bottling. Once bottled, bottle ageing occurs in temperature controlled conditions of 13C (55F), allowing it to evolve.

The color presents a straw yellow hue, slight tawny. The aromas are elegant and persistent with layers of tropical fruit, spice and notes of citrus and slight vanilla. On the palate, it is dry, smooth, and savory, making the balance one that is pleasant, even divergent, with finish being elegant.

Farnito Vinsanto del Chianti DOC: A bottle of this variety  used to be considered a "luxury wine", consumed after special meals or sipped on its own for its richness and place at the table: Vinsanto, deeply cultural and historical. Many times it is made by hand from older family members, using methods that have passed through the ages.

Its name is steeped in legend, one story has it that a friar of the 14th century gave it to the sick for healing; another is that its name comes from its use in the religious Mass.

It must be made from at least 70% Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia, the remaining up to 30% other white varieties. The grapes are dried in wooden crates and slowly fermented in winter, then matured for 16 years, partly in chestnut “caratelli” and partly in oak, before final aging in a temperature-controlled cellar. It displays a golden yellow hue with bronze reflections, giving off aromas of apricot jam, peach, walnut, and typical Malvasia notes. On the palate, you will feel a fine sweet taste balanced with balsamic depth and a long persistent finish. Serve at 13-15°C (55F).
