World aperitif day: which wines to select for a perfect happy hour | Carpineto

Happy hour is something truly special. For Italians and, as time goes by, also for many other cultures around the world. If you want to celebrate this event in the best way possible, you may want to prepare yourself first, and follow our suggestions for a very special aperitif.

May 26 2022 was the first World Aperitif Day, a global celebration dedicated to one of the oldest Italian rituals. Officially born in Turin in the second half of the 1700s, coinciding with the creation of Vermouth (but with roots far back in time), the aperitif was and is an almost sacred ritual which we all hardly give up.

Following the “Manifesto” of the World Aperitivo Day, the perfect italian happy hour must follow a few guidelines, for example: The Aperitif is an original rite of the Italian tradition that combines a drink with a food product or a gastronomic preparation combined with it; The Aperitif is held in two different moments of the day, both in domestic life and in places of consumption: before lunch and before dinner, not becoming a substitute for the two meals; To guarantee the Italian spirit of this moment of taste, the Aperitif must be at least 50% Made in Italy, and at least half of the ingredients used for the pairing must be produced in Italy and the Italian origin of the products used must be guaranteed through traceability of the production chain.

Here in Tuscany we also know how to rock an incredible happy hour by our wonderful vineyards. At Carpineto, we have the best products to set the bar of your aperitifs very high. The choice for a perfect “vino da aperitivo” usually lands on aromatic, fresh and fruity white wines, and for a good reason!

We believe that our Dogajolo Toscano Bianco I.G.T. is the perfect choice for an incredible happening by the sunset. Our clients enthusiastically feast on this wonderful product, made up of Chardonnay grapes blended with Sauvignon Blanc and Grechetto. These grapes, harvested by hand, are destemmed, cooled and kept for a short time in maceration with their skins. Subsequently, the juice is separated from the solid parts by means of pressing, they are then decanted and ready for fermentation. The whole process always strictly takes place at a controlled temperature. No clarifying and stabilizing treatments with chemical products take place at any stage.

The result is a full-bodied wine with the right amount of acidity that, despite being dry, is able to maintain a velvety and caressing finish. Excellent as an aperitif or with typical Mediterranean dishes, such as: salads, pasta, seafood and white meats. Therefore, it is the perfect choice for an incredible happy hour.

The Happy Hour is now an internationally recognized celebration, and it’s no surprise that a World Aperitif Day was established. The idea of the aperitif was born to have a chat with friends and colleagues before returning home after work and to restart the metabolism before dinner; in some bars, however, there is so much food on offer that dinner can be completely replaced with an aperitif. This is a true Italian experience that everyone should try at least once! It's perfect for relaxing, watching the sunset, having a good drink and eating some snacks while waiting for dinner.
