Carpineto purchases a 165 hectare estate in Maremma

Carpineto, a quality leader in Tuscan winemaking, purchased a 165 hectare (396 acres) estate in the upper Maremma, near the town of Gavorrano, within the Monteregio DOC appellation. "The estate is located between Bolgheri and the Morellino appellations, in an area with one of the lowest population densities in Italy" states Antonio M. Zaccheo, winery partner. The estate is one-third occupied by woods densely populated with wildlife, with the balance extending over hillsides of red soil dotted with historic cork oaks and olives overlooking the Bruna river valley. The climate, typically Mediterranean, is similar to Sicily’s with limited precipitation in the Summer, which creates an ideal environment for the cultivation of vines.

"It was the softly rolling hillsides with full sun exposure, the well structured clay soils a short distance to the sea but safe from the threat of briny breezes, as well as the abundance of water that attracted us to this property" states Giovanni Carlo Sacchet, winemaker and partner in the winery. "The estate is currently planted mostly to grain. It is our intention to plant vines only once an extensive, diligent study of the "terroir" is completed, then size the winery accordingly" concludes Sacchet.

Founded in 1967 Carpineto produces wines from the most prestigious Tuscan DOCG appellations. The product line also includes varietal specific wines of great structure as well as innovative proprietary blends. Carpineto exports the majority of the wine production to 41 countries worldwide.  About 90% of Carpineto’s wine production is red wine, with the majority being "riserva" wines that are aged three or more years before their release date.
