Gaville Estate

Situated on a hilltop at an elevation of 300 meters above sea level (1,000 feet) near the Etruscan village of Gaville, this historic estate of olive trees and vineyards overlooks the Arno river valley to the South and the Chianti Classico hills to the North and East.

The 65 hectares (156 acres) of dry farmed land extends downward a gentle, south-facing slope. The 13 hectares (31 acres) of vineyards are planted mostly to Sangiovese, and other experimental grape varieties. The vineyards, in this pastoral environment, yield age-worthy wines of great structure and intensity and are part of the “Appodiati” single vineyard program.

The vineyards are complemented by a 17-hectare (41 acres) orchard of olive trees that are planted to the classic Tuscan varieties of Frantoio, Moraiolo, Leccino and Pendolino. Within this estate lies an ancient, traditional farmhouse complex dating back to the 11th century that has been renovated. The main building houses a traditional olive crushing mill, as well as modern decanting and bottling equipment, known in Italian as a “frantoio”. There are also a multitude of stainless steel tanks used for the storage, racking and blending of the estate’s extra virgin olive oil.

In an underground aging cellar, below the olive oil bottling line, there are about 1,000 barrels exclusively dedicated to the aging of the Farnito Cabernet Sauvignon.
