Greve in Chianti, Frazione Dudda (Chianti Classico area)

At 300 meters above sea level (1,000 feet), at the eastern edge of the Chianti Classico region lays the original site of the winery in a location known for centuries as Carpineto. Today this estate hosts the administrative and winemaking headquarters for the company. The buildings are surrounded by 8 hectares (20 acres) of dry farmed Chianti Classico vineyards planted on steep hillsides to Sangiovese and Canaiolo grapes.

Within a modern complex of multi-level buildings there are dozens of stainless steel, temperature controlled storage and fermentation tanks, sparkling wine production equipment as well as presses, and bottling equipment of the latest generation. Below the refrigerated finished goods warehouse there is a large aging cellar excavated below the valley floor. At a naturally constant temperature of 15-17°C (58-62°F), this is Carpineto’s bottle aging cellar where at any given time about one million bottles of wine lay aging for a period ranging from 4/6 months to over 3˝ years before release. Next to this bottle aging cellar, still underground, is the barrel room that holds about 1,000 barrels.

Gaville

Situated on a hilltop at an elevation of 300 meters above sea level (1,000 feet) near the Etruscan village of Gaville this historic estate of olive trees and vineyards overlooks the Arno river valley to the South and the Chianti Classico hills to the North and East. The 65 hectares (156 acres) of dry farmed land extends downward a gentle, south-facing slope. The 13 hectares (31 acres) of vineyards are planted mostly to Sangiovese, and other experimental grape varieties. The vineyards, in this pastoral environment, yield age-worthy wines of great structure and intensity and are part of the "Appodiati" single vineyard program.

The vineyards are complemented by a 17-hectare (41 acres) orchard of olive trees that are planted to the classic Tuscan varieties of Frantoio, Moraiolo, Leccino and Pendolino. Within this estate lies an ancient, traditional farmhouse complex dating back to the 11th century that has been renovated. The main building houses a traditional olive crushing mill, as well as modern decanting and bottling equipment, known in Italian as a “frantoio”. There are also a multitude of stainless steel tanks used for the storage, racking and blending of the estate’s extra virgin olive oil. In an underground aging cellar, below the olive oil bottling line, there are about 1,000 barrels exclusively dedicated to the aging of the Farnito Cabernet Sauvignon.

Chianciano/Montepulciano (Vino Nobile area)

Among the softly rolling hills of the Vino Nobile region of Tuscany lie 184 tillable hectares (442 acres) of land dedicated to vineyards and olive trees at an elevation of 250 meters (800 feet) above sea level. On this estate there are 73.5 hectares (182 acres) of dry-farmed vineyards. These are planted with new clones of Sangiovese and international grape varietals dedicated to our age worthy wines as well as the Appodiati single vineyard programs. These state of the art vineyards are planted to modern trellising methods with clones and rootstocks varying according to soil type. Planting densities here often exceed 8,500 plants per hectare (3,300 per acre) yielding wines of great concentration and finesse.

There are also 12 hectares (29 acres) of olive groves planted to the classic Tuscan varieties of Frantoio, Moraiolo, Leccino and Pendolino that are used to produce the estate extra virgin olive oil.

On the estate there is also an old farmhouse complex, complete with vinification and aging cellars that date back to the 1700’s, in which the Vino Nobile wines are produced. Cellar capacity is approximately 3,700 hl (42,000 gallons) of wood cooperage, mostly oval Slavonian oak casks and small barrels, in addition to 13,000 hl (343,000 gallons) of temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. A new winery complex complete with additional aging cellars is being built on the estate.
