Valcolomba (Maremma – Grosseto)

This is the latest addition to Carpineto’s portfolio of Tuscan estates, a 165 hectare (396 acres) estate in the upper Maremma, near the town of Gavorrano, within the Monteregio DOC appellation. Located between Bolgheri and the Morellino appellations, in an area with one of the lowest population densities in Italy. One-third of the estate is occupied by woods densely populated with wildlife, with the balance extending over hillsides of red soil dotted with historic cork oaks and olives, overlooking the Bruna river valley. The climate, typically Mediterranean, is similar to Sicily’s with limited precipitation in the Summer, which creates an ideal environment for the cultivation of vines. There are 10 hectares (24 acres) planted to Vermentino, Sangiovese and Merlot, plus 5 hectares (12 acres) planted to ancient olive trees of the variety Frantoio, Moraiolo, Leccino and Pendolino.
